The **DMT DiaSharp Bench Stone 6x2 D6EF double-sided fine, extra-fine** is a compact sharpening stone. With one fine side and one extra fine side you can use the stone for many sharpening purposes. Diamond-coated sharpening stones quickly remove material and, depending on the grain size sharpen your knives razor-sharp. The advantage of diamond sharpening stones is that they don't have to be lapped. With this DiaSharp stone the diamond particles are added to a 6 mm thick steel sheet. As such the flatness of this sharpening stone is guaranteed.


## DMT DiaSharp Bench Stone 6x2: grain size


The grain size of a diamond-coated stone and a water stone cannot easily be compared. This is because the construction and materials used are substantially different. With a water stone, the sharpening grains are incorporated in the stone. These grains are also released from the stone during use and become some kind of sharpening paste. With a diamond-coated stone, the diamonds are secured in the surface of the stone.


**Good to know**
The [DMT DuoBase met MagnaBase-adapter](/en/pt/-dmt-duobase-met-magnabase-adapter.htm) makes sharpening much more stable and easy. You can use the DMT sharpening stones with or without water. The advantage of sharpening with water is that the stone is lubricated and the sharpening residue is removed. Never use oil, always water. It is also good to know that a diamond-coated sharpening stone must be sharpened as well. A new sharpening stone removes quite a lot of material. Only after 5 to 10 knives does the stone have its final effect.

The fine side is great but the ultra fine is a joke. Very little diamond and more smooth than abrasive. Maybe it's just the one I got but still that points to QC issues.

Es ist ja allgemein bekannt, dass Diamantplatten eingearbeitet werden müssen und sie in dieser Zeit sehr rau sein können, bei dieser Platte war das aber ziemlich nervenaufreibend. 
Beide Seiten der Platte waren nicht nur rau, sie waren extrem unregelmäßig. Wenn ich ein Messer ohne Druck über die Platte schob ruckelte es sehr stark, der Widerstand war je nach Stelle auf der Platte ein anderer; das Messer blieb richtig hängen. Es fühlte sich so an als würden einzelne viel zu große Partikel oder Partikelklumpen (?) auf der Platte sein. Die Lupe zeigte tatsächlich regelrechte Löcher in der Schneidkante der Messer! Auch beim Zugschnitt durch Papier machte sich das bemerkbar, das Messer blieb dauernd hängen. 
Da ich die xfine-Seite eigentlich als Finisher eingeplant hätte, war das so nicht akzeptabel.

Auf der Platte sind außerdem viele kleine, haardünne kurze "Kratzer" und teilweise scheint an den Rändern die Beschichtung zu fehlen. 

Beide Seiten sind laut Lichtspalttest nicht zu hundert Prozent plan aber meiner Meinung nach zum Freihandschärfen plan genug.

Erst habe ich versucht die vermuteten zu groben Partikel dadurch zu entfernen, indem ich mit der Platte einige Keramiksteine abgerichtet habe - ohne Erfolg. 
Dann habe ich nach Recherche die Platte grob mit einem Schraubendreherschaft (Chrom-Vanadium-Legierung) so lange abgerieben bis das Ruckeln beim darauf folgenden Schärfen deutlich weniger geworden ist. (Die Platte nur durch Schärfen einzuarbeiten kam nicht in Frage weil das Ergebnis wirklich schlecht war und auch mit dem Schraubenzieher habe ich eine Weile gerieben.) Dann sah die Schneidkante unter der Lupe auch ok aus. 

Diese anscheinend notwendige Vorbereitung und die Optik finde ich bei dem Preis eigentlich nicht in Ordnung. Leider habe ich keine Vergleichsmöglichkeiten und weiß nicht ob das normal ist oder ob meine Platte fehlerhaft ist. Von ähnlichen Problemem berichten teilweise auch Andere. Interessant zu dem Thema sind die Artikel auch scienceofsharp.com "Diamond Plate break-in". 

Die Begriffe "fein" und "extrafein" sind mit großer Vorsicht zu genießen wenn man Natur- und Keramiksteine gewohnt ist. 
Beide Seiten sind noch sehr grob und hinterlassen auch ein entsprechend bissiges Finish; sind sehr schnell. 
Mit der "fine"-Seite lassen sich locker noch sehr stumpfe Messer wieder schärfen! Nach der xfine-Seite konnten die Messer nur mit Mühe Armhaare rasieren, reiner Druckschnitt in Druckerpapier ging nicht (!), Zugschnitt aber sehr gut. Nach jeweils drei Zügen über 1µ -Diamantpaste rasierten die Messer bereits passabel, Druckschnitt in Papier begann zu funktionieren. Nach nochmal 9 Zügen rasierten die Messer schon sehr gut Armhaare, Druckschnitt Druckerpapier ging auch sehr gut. Die Schneide fühlte sich auf den Fingerkuppen aber immer noch ziemlich bissig an. Weiches Holz zu schnitzen war so auch gut möglich auch wenn es sich kratziger anfühlte wie mit einer richtig polierten Schneide. 
Die Haltbarkeit kann ich nicht beurteilen aber sonst ist das Ergebnis von DMT xfine + 1µ Diamant wirklich eine tolle Schneide mit guter Mischung aus Bissigkeit und Druckschnittfähigkeit. 

Die Größe der Platte finde ich für Taschenmesser (und halt kleine Feststehende) absolut ausreichend und angenehm. 

Außer, dass es mit Wasser akustisch angenehmer war, konnte ich keinen Unterschied zwischen Nass- und Trockenschliff feststellen.

Sollte die Platte lange in dem Zustand, in dem sie jetzt ist, bleiben, bin ich trotz der erwähnten Probleme zufrieden.
