This **Naniwa Advance Stone sharpening set** is comprised of three Japanese whetstones. The top-quality whetstones have grainsizes 1000, 5000 and 10000. They are a part of the Advance Stone collection: the successor of the Naniwa Super Stone Collection.


## Synthetic resin-bound sharpening stones


The Advance Stones are synthetic resin-bound. Naniwa takes care of the production of this binding agent themselves. Perfectly aligned to the grain size of the sharpening stone. It is one of the reasons why the Advance Stones are so incredibly good. They are hard, do not wear out easily and have a high concentration of sharpening particles. As a result your knife won’t quickly ‘bite’ into your stone and the sharpening process will go quickly. In addition, they are *splash & go*: simply add some water and you are good to go.


After sharpening it is important to properly dry off the Advance Stones and allow them to completely dry at room temperature. Do not put them on the heater! Once dry store them in a dry, dark place to prevent small cracks.


## About the grain size


Sharpening stones come in various grain sizes. The larger the number the finer the grain. The finer the grain, the sharper the results. You start the sharpening process with a coarse grain after which you continue with a finer grain. Steps of a factor two to three between the different grain sizes are perfect.


## Indication for choosing the right sharpening stone




* Grain 200 to 600: great to restore the edge of blunt knives

* Grain 800 to 1000: great to sharpen knives that are still in good shape

* Grain 2000 to 3000: for a sharper result than most knives that are delivered to your doorstep

* Grain 5000 to 12000: for razor-sharp knives

Répond parfaitement à mes attentes, pour l’affûtage de coupe choux, c’est vraiment top,
1000, pour affiner le fil, la 5000, pour commencer à le pré polissage et la 10 000, pour faire le polissage de la lame.
On peux créer une boue épaisse et l’éclaircir au fur et à mesure pour arriver à l’eau clair et avoir un fil bien droit et doux pour le rasage.

Anfangs guter Eindruck, Jedoch nach nutzung und abrichten der Steine zeigten der 5000&10000 große harte Partikel (0,5-1mm) in dem Gefüge die Metall ansammeln und darauf hin das Schleifbild Zerkratzen. Knifes&Tools sagt dies sei normal. 
Also nur zur Politur geeignet wenn man nach 10 Hieben den Stein wieder Abrichtet da die Partikel sich vollsetzten mit Metallabrieb.

Vrij duur maar is het waard. Ik kocht ook al skerper stenen maar die zijn niet te vergelijken met deze japanse stenen. Ik heb een super harde vg max miyabi en geen ervaring. Toch kreeg ik mijn mes weer scherp met deze stenen. 

Super produit. Je débute mais très bonne sensation. Attention ces pierres sont fragiles. 

Erg leuke stenen om mee te werken voor wie reeds wat ervaring heeft. Een aandachtspunt (voor de beginner) is dat je toch vrij makkelijk de stenen kan kwetsen als je onder de verkeerde hoek werkt (maar dat zal wel voor alle stenen zo zijn zeker ?). Persoonlijk raad ik aan om nog een 400 grid steen bij te kopen, anders moet je toch wel vrij lang slijpen aan echt botte messen. Anderzijds is de 5000 en zeker de 10000 grid een fantastiche steen om mee te polijsten. Spiegel-effect verzekerd !
