The NiteCore P25 Smilodon is a torch with many possible applications. The torch works on 2 CR123a batteries of a single rechargeable 18650 battery. The 18650 battery can be charged in the torch, using a standard micro usb connector. This means, that in many cases you can simply plug in the charger of your cell phone or tablet. You can easily recharge the torch without the help of a special charger.   
  


The P25 has a tactical on/off switch at the back of the torch. You can choose between the light modes with the 2-stage switch (comparible to the shutter release button on a camera):  
  



* Pressing it entirely will switch the light on or off

* If you push the button halfway, you will run through the different light modes. The torch has a memory function, which means that it will always switch on in the light mode which you used last before switching it off.

* If the torch is switched on, you can go to strobe mode by pressing the button for a full second. Then, if you press the button halway, you can switch to the beacon mode and the SOS mode.




Around the switch button is a luminous ring, which flashes every 3 seconds, to help you find the torch easily in the dark. In addition, this luminous ring gives a warning if the torch battery is half empty or almost completely empty. Also, it can display the battery voltage.  
   


Around the reflector there is a steel ring, for extra protection of the lamp head.   
  


Hardened, ultra clear glass lens (with coating to prevent reflection) and a metal reflector. This reflector is equipped with a special coating to increase the light output.
5 light modes, strobe, SOS- and beacon mode:  

- Eco (2 ANSI lumen, 325 u)   

- Low (50 ANSI lumen, 30 u)   

- Mid (180 ANSI lumen, 7 u)   

- High (550 ANSI lumen, 2 min.)   

- Turbo (860 ANSI lumen, 1 u 45 min.)
  
  


* The indication of the light intensity is according to the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standards. This means that the values may be lower than former values . Naturally, this lower value has no consequence for the light intensity of the torch. The advantage of the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standards is that the values can be compared with each other and give a real picture of the actual light intenstiy.

inmiddels vijf maanden geleden dat ik de NiteCore P25 heb gekocht en ik ben tot heden zeer tevreden. Bij mijn aankoop heb ik een 2e accu gekocht ook van NiteCore maar dat had helemaal niet gehoeven zo goed is de accu. Maar een extra accu is als een verzekering handig als je op pad bent. Ik was op zoek naar een goed balans tussen portable en licht opbrengst. Ook vond ik het belangrijk dat ik de accu kon opladen zonder een oplader. Voor het opladen van Lithium-ion batterijen is een geschikte oplader nodig, je kunt dus niet een regulier oplader gebruiken. Een ingebouwde oplader is daarom erg handig. ik heb inmiddels de interne accu 1x opgeladen en hij is nog steeds voldoende opgeladen. 
De zaklamp heeft ook een functie om te bepalen hoe vol de accu is. Alvorens ik op pad ga kijk ik wat de accu status is en bepaal of ik de reserve batterij mee neem. Allemaal handigheden waar ik nu niet zonder kan. 
Ik heb enkel een kleine opmerking betreffende de coating die had wat sterker gemogen. Ook heb ik de rode filter gekocht bij deze lamp en die gebruik ik regelmatig als ik snel moet kunnen schakelen tussen donker en licht. 

Al met al heb ik geen spijt van mijn aankoop en kan deze all in one zaklamp zeker aanraden.

Jammer dat er geen herlaadbare batterij meegeleverd wordt

Goede compacte lamp met veel mogelijkheden, handige bediening. Enige nadeel is dat ze als oplaadbaar verkocht is, terwijl er niet oplaadbare batterijen inzitten die toch wel vrij snel niet meer op volle sterkte branden. Heb dan de voorgeschreven oplaadbare batterij afzonderlijk gekocht, maar daar was de lamp blijkbaar niet meer op voorzien gezien de opening voor de + pool niet groot genoeg was. Met koperen opvulstukje heb ik het tenslotte opgelost.
