I've got several different japanese saws at different price levels. This saw has become one of my favorite ones both for shop work and on jobs where a more expensive saw might be borrowed by a less experienced coworker and therefor might be damaged. The blade allows all types of cuts with acceptable to good speed and the handle wont be damaged if it becomes wet. I personally prefer a rattan wrapped handles but this handle simply does what it's supposed to. Blades can be replaced relatively easy and wont cost you an arm and a leg. For the beginner japanese woodworker looking for an all around saw you could choose alot worse. For the more experienced woodworker this could is also a good buy for "rougher" onsite work. In short, buy one!

Brilliant. These saws summed up in one word. They are razor sharp and incredibly quick once you get used to one. The straight handle does take a little getting used to, as does cutting on the pull if you are used to a traditional hand saw. But the cut it gives is so fine and smooth it is incredible to think it has been done by a manual saw and not a power tool. The handles is light and has a good non slip grip so no chance of slipping on the handle. The fact that these can have the blades changed makes them even better value for money, and the fact there are different types of blade depending on the job/material being used. Personally I think these are the best saws going for any joinery work.
