About Hultafors

The story of Hultafors begins in 1883 with the invention of Karl-Hilmer Johansson Kollén. When Sweden switched completely to the metric system, he came up with a clever solution: a folding ruler that displayed both inches and centimetres; the first folding ruler. This innovative measuring tool quickly became a huge success and led to the establishment of a factory in Stockholm. After expansions in Gothenburg, production finally moved to the village of Hultafors in 1907, where water power and a convenient location became the foundation for the successful company we know today. Since then, Hultafors has grown into a real household name in tools, but the origins remain the same: innovative, reliable measuring instruments and tools made in the place that gave the brand its name.

In 1992, Hultafors started selling premium axes by purchasing Tors Hammare's forge called Hults Bruk, expanding the range even further. By then, Hults Bruk had 35 employees and were already exporting to countries such as Australia and Canada. With this acquisition, Hults Bruk's 300-year tradition in the art of blacksmithing was integrated into Hultafors.
