Top 10 best cutting boards

We made an overview of 10 of the best, most beautiful, popular and practical cutting boards. What the 'best' cutting board is differs from person to person. Some look for a large, thick cutting board to elevate their countertop, others prefer a smaller, plastic board. In this top 10 we made an overview of 10 cutting boards that are all relatively different. As such you can decide which cutting board will suit you best!

A cutting board allows you to showcase your kitchen knives even more. A wooden or plastic cutting board ensures that your knife stays sharp. A cutting board made from stone or glass is a no-go! These boards are too hard and ensure your knife will lose its sharpness. They are nice serving boards, but not cutting boards. Fortunately there is a variety of cutting boards which, considering their relatively soft material, will treat your knives well.

Wooden cutting boards

A wooden cutting board will hardly impact the sharpness of your knives. It is because wood is a relatively soft material. Of course every type of wood is different, a bamboo cutting board is harder than one made from beech wood, but both are still softer than the steel of your knife. A wooden cutting board has another advantage. They are often thicker than those made from plastic. If your countertops are too low to properly work on, a wooden cutting board can improve the working height.

A disadvantage of a wooden cutting board is that they are not dishwasher proof and they do need to be taken care of. To make sure the board stays in great shape, maintenance is key! To learn more about maintaining your cutting board we would love to refer you to our topic: How do you maintain a wooden cutting board. It is also good to think about whether your cutting board will always be lying on your countertop or if you should also be able to store it. Large or small, a wooden design cutting board can be a real eye catcher!

Plastic cutting boards

In professional kitchens, coloured plastic cutting boards are used most often because they are easy to clean. A plastic cutting board is more hygienic and won't need as much maintenance as a wooden cutting board. Also, a plastic cutting board is dishwasher proof. One disadvantage: a plastic cutting board is not as pleasing to the eye as a wooden cutting board.
