The **Robert Herder Limited Edition Buckels Andiroba** is a characteristic German breakfast knife with a Buckels shape. Because of its sharpness and the shape of the blade these knives are perfect when cutting bread, hard buns, cheese, salami or spreading butter on a piece of bread.

The blade is made from stainless steel. This means that this knife is more corrosion resistant than carbon steel. Of course, we still recommend you wash this special mill knife by hand.

## Andiroba from the Panama Canal.

During the construction of the Panama Canal in 1914, many coastal areas disappeared underwater. The trees in these areas, mainly high-value hardwoods like the Andiroba, flooded and died. The prolonged immersion caused the wood to become completely soaked. This prevented the wood from coming into contact with air, which preserved the wood.

When the canal was expanded, these dead trees were cut with special underwater saws and brought to the surface with floating pontoons. This was an adventurous and often dangerous undertaking. Why did they do this? This particular process also ensures that after the wood is dried, the wood will be very hard. In addition, it has very nice markings that gleam in the light.
