I recently picked up the Skerper Whetstone Holder SA001 to use with my sharpening stones, and it’s been a solid addition to my setup. As a home cook who sharpens a mix of kitchen knives, this holder has made the process much more stable and convenient. Performance: This holder does exactly what it’s supposed to—keeps my stones (up to 22 cm) firmly in place while sharpening. I’ve used it with both my Shapton 1000 and a cheaper combo stone, and it grips them securely without slipping, thanks to the rubber feet. The adjustable screws make it easy to fit different stone sizes, and it stays put on my countertop, even when wet. Ease of Use: Setting it up is a breeze—just adjust the screws to fit your stone and place it on a flat surface or over a sink. I love that I can use it on my counter without worrying about a mess, though I haven’t tried the sink setup yet. Cleaning is simple: rinse it off and dry to prevent rust. It’s super user-friendly, even for someone new to sharpening. Build and Durability: The holder is made of steel and rubber, weighing about 318 grams, which gives it a sturdy feel. It’s not fancy, but it’s functional. After a month of use, it’s held up well, though I’m careful to dry the metal parts to avoid any rust, as some users have mentioned oxidation if not dried properly. Value: At around £15, it’s a great value for a budget-friendly holder. It’s not as heavy-duty as premium options like the Suehiro, but for casual sharpeners, it gets the job done without breaking the bank. Drawbacks: It’s not perfect—one screw on mine was a bit stiff to adjust initially, and I’ve read some reports of manufacturing defects like hard-to-tighten screws. Also, it can wobble slightly on very slick surfaces, so a non-slip mat underneath helps. Not a dealbreaker, but worth noting. Final Thoughts: The Skerper SA001 is a reliable, affordable holder that makes sharpening easier and more stable. It’s a must-have for anyone using whetstones at home, especially on a budget. I give it 4 stars—docking a star for the occasional screw issue and minor stability quirks. Highly recommend for casual sharpeners!
