This **WMF Spitzenklasse Plus honing steel, 23 cm** is the perfect tool for quickly sharpening your kitchen knives before use. Before using your knife, drag it along the honing steel a few times and flatten out the burrs that appeared during previous use. Sharpening your knives is not always necessary. If your knife is still sharp, it'll suffice to simply remove any burrs.

**Please note:** a honing steel does not sharpen! You are not removing any steel from the knife. Therefore, you cannot use a honing steel to sharpen your knife. Is your knife very blunt? In that case, you should use a [sharpening steel](/en/ct/sharpening-steel.htm) or a [sharpening stone](/en/ct/sharpening-stones-and-whetstones.htm). You use this honing steel before or after using the kitchen knife, and only to maintain your knife's sharpness longer.
