With this **Shapton Pro Stone grain 5000** you can sharpen quickly and evenly. This ceramic Japanese sharpening stone has a grain size of 5000. A fine sharpening stone that is great if you are looking for razor-sharp results. But it is also great when sharpening straight razors. The stone can be used with almost all types of knives. From outdoor knives to kitchen knives, from pocket knives to chisels.

## Shapton Pro Stones

In Japan, these colourful Shapton Pro sharpening stones are also known as *Shapton Ha-No-Kuromaku*. They are Shapton's thickest sharpening stones, with a thickness of 15 mm. As befits Shapton, each stone is beautifully homogeneous in structure, with evenly distributed ceramic sharpening particles. This ensures a really even sharpening result. Because the stones are quite hard, they quickly remove material and they take a long time to wear down.

## Shapton Pro Stones: grit sizes and colours

The Shapton Pro sharpening stones are available in various grit sizes. Each of these grit sizes has a corresponding colour, so you can quickly see which stone you need. 

With the Shapton Pro Stones, you have the right stone for every step of the sharpening process. From restoring an edge with the coarse grit 120 stone, through to polishing the edge with a super fine grit 12,000 stone. 

## How to use Shapton Pro Stones

Every Shapton Pro sharpening stone is *splash & go*: simply sprinkle a bit of water onto the stone and you can start sharpening. You'll notice that the stone removes material pretty quickly. This gives you speedy results, and also means the stone wears down less quickly. These stones do not need to be soaked except the very first time after purchase. We do recommend that on first use, you pre-soak the stone in water for five to six minutes to secure even smoother sharpening.

After use, clean the stone with water and leave it to dry. Don't try to speed up the drying process with a fan or heater - give the stone time to dry naturally. After it has dried completely, you can put it back in the corresponding storage box.

If used frequently, the stone will hollow out over time. A lapping plate can solve this problem in no time, leaving the stone as flat as a billiard cloth once again.

## Multifunctional protective box

This Shapton Pro Stone is delivered in a pink plastic storage box, which matches the colour of the sharpening stone. The box isn't just useful for storing the stone. The top is enhanced with raised edges. The stone fits exactly in between those edges. This means you can also use the box as a sharpening stone holder. The non-slip feet on the bottom mean that it won't slide while you're sharpening. Finally, there are ventilation holes on the bottom, so you can store the sharpening stone without any worries, even if the sharpening stone doesn't appear to be fully dry. These details make all the difference.

La Shapton Pro 5000 ya entra en el terreno del afinado serio. Es una piedra dura, no se desgasta fácil y deja un filo muy fino, con un buen nivel de pulido sin llegar al espejo total. El deslizamiento sobre el filo es suave y controlado, y no hace falta estar reponiendo agua todo el tiempo, lo que la hace muy cómoda de usar. No es para desbastar ni corregir errores —esto es para terminar bien—, y si llegás con una buena progresión antes, el resultado se nota. Ideal para dejar los cuchillos listos para el uso fino o como paso previo al pulido final. Una piedra que cierra muy bien el trabajo.

Im loving this stone after the grit 2000 shapton. the feel, the results, the satisfaction of working on this stone, all 10/10. 

its more of a polished edge stone than a sharpening stone. sure it will improve the sharpness to a certain degree, but its more for the self satisfactory feeling, of having a beautiful finish on your knife.

you wont even have to spent much time on this stone, the results come fast. 

If you are a knife nerd, and want to give your knife that extra.. Wauw effect, this stone is for you (maybe even the 8k if you a real enthusiast)

Parfaitement plane, elle est vraiment très dure.
La plupart des utilisateurs disent qu'on a l'impression d'avoir une plaque de verre tellement la lame glisse sur cette pierre. Et bien il y en un de plus.
Je confirme, on a l'impression d'aiguiser sur le verre d'une Glass Stone. Quasiment aucun retour tactile. Cependant, il y a un retour auditif assez clair. Ca aide.
Et bizarrement, ça enlève de l'acier. Et pas qu'un peu. Je l'ai essayée après la Shapton 1000, donc avec un état de surface pas très fin, et l'eau noirci vite et beaucoup.
Et elle donne d'excellents résultats.
Franchement, je l'aime beaucoup, mais je comprends qu'elle ne fasse pas l'unanimité. Si elle délivrait plus de sensations, elle serait parfaite.
Avec une pression faible ou "normale" (j'estime entre 100 et 400 g), elle polit le tranchant.
En augmentant la pression (entre 500 et 900 g), elle aiguise, ou du moins, elle peaufine l'aiguisage.
