What are roof prism binoculars?

There are two types of binoculars. Roof prism binoculars and porro binoculars. When you look through a pair of binoculars, the image is flipped in the front. The prism corrects this, making the image the right way up again. With roof prism binoculars, the objective lenses and prisms are located right in front of each other. With porro binoculars, these are at an angle. As such, roof prism binoculars are more compact than porro binoculars.
