History of Energizer
Energizer began developing smart solutions back in 1896 by creating the very first consumer battery. This battery, invented by W.H. Lawrence, was intended to power home telephones. It weighed about 1.5 kg, which is quite heavy compared to the batteries we know today. Not much later, in 1898, Conrad Hubert used this battery to make the first flashlight ever. In 1905, they joined forces and together founded The American Ever Ready Company, which later became Energizer.
In the 1950s, then under the name Eveready, Energizer introduced the first small batteries for hearing aids. This made the devices much more manageable and changed the lives of many people with hearing problems. In 1957, engineer Lew Urry filed a patent for the first lithium battery, an invention that completely changed batteries. A year later, in 1958, they also developed the first rechargeable battery system, which greatly improved performance.
In 1989, Energizer released an environmentally friendly battery without added mercury, a big step toward sustainability. And the first AA lithium battery followed in 1992, just what was needed for the increasingly powerful devices of the time.
