Carabiners: EDC items for anyone who appreciates good quality
An EDC carabiner is a practical tool to keep your tools and keys within easy reach. Like a standard carabiner, but classy. With a good carrabiner, you attach your keys to a belt loop on your jeans. That way, they won't annoy you in your pockets. But many carabiners also come with additional tools! Think of bottle openers, wrenches, pry bars or screwdrivers. This makes an EDC carabiner a practical tool that comes in handy in any EDC loadout.
How to choose a good EDC carabiner?
You choose a good EDC carabiner by considering the size. Some carabiners are quite large, and won't fit as well inside trouser pockets. Others are small and compact, but might be harder to attach to your bag because of its small diameter. So please make sure to keep the size of the carabiner in mind when you choose one.
Another thing to consider is how far the hinged part can bend inward to attach the carabiner to something. Sometimes a carabiner is pretty long, but also very narrow, so not suitable for large objects.
Lastly, you should consider your preferred choice of material. Alumium is a nicely lightweight material that is often anodized to have stunning colours. The flip side is that it’s relatively soft and wears out faster than steel or titanium.
Titanium, on the other hand, is a popular choice for premium EDC carabiners. It's very strong, lightweight and has a tough look. However, titanium carabiners do tend to be more costly.
A steel carabiner is often very strong and affordable. It is heavier, and dare we say slightly less cool than titanium?
