Could not get an uncoated version of this knife as uncoated has been discontinued. Had to put up with this black oxide version as second best. Please Esee stop discontinuing uncoated blades. Would purchase many more Esee knives if blades were uncoated. Can't fault the design of this knife,it is a superb design. Hate the black oxide finish! Would have given five stars, but for the horrid coating!1

OK so this knife surprised me. I expected it to be good from the reviews I had done but it fart exceeds expectations. I hate stainless and love carbon steel for a work tool. This is used to field dress small deer, rabbits, breast out pigeon etc. The blade is high quality, thick, strong and takes a mean edge being carbon steel. The bevel angle is not perfect for my needs, so I re-profiled it a bit in to a semi scandi almost to make it way more slicey for game needs. It is now a perfect balance between properly sharp and good edge retention. It comes pretty sharp and the tip is very strong. I am yet to damage it which is testament to its build quality. I like the sheath as well. Not a chance it is falling out in a hurry, you have to give it a proper yank to pull it out and a proper whack to get it back in. It is small (which I like) yet the handle fits the hand perfectly. I can see why the bushcrafters love it. Impossible to fault thus far
