These robust, hand-quarried natural stones come directly from the heart of the Belgian Ardennes. They are made entirely by hand into a flat stone by Ardennes Coticule. This Belgian brand is therefore entitled to bear the label "Handmade in Belgium". No mass production, no compromises, just pure craftsmanship from Ardennes Coticule. Each stone is unique, with the power of millions of years of nature beneath your fingers. For those who not only sharpen their knives, but also take care of them.

Features of Belgian sharpening stones

Belgian sharpening stones are exceptional. They are carefully extracted from the Ardennes soil and consist of 30 to 42% garnets, firmly embedded in mica and fixed on a slate base. Garnets? This is a rock-hard crystal mix that delivers impressively fine and fast sharpening results. Due to their natural origin, each stone differs in colour, texture and performance. Available as Coticule and as Belgian Blue Whetstone, also affectionately known as "Belgian chunks". The garnets have a dodecahedron shape, ideal for polishing steel due to their rounded corners.

Every sharpening stone is unique

Because the Belgian sharpening stone is a 100% natural product, the material from which this stone is made is unique. Whereas synthetic sharpening stones are usually made of ceramic or a diamond-coating sharpening layer, the Belgian sharpening stones consists of garnets. Garnet is a mixture of minerals and crystals and is a very hard material.

Sharpening with these stones requires a specific approach, but once you have mastered it, you will never want to do it any other way. We are therefore happy to show you the best way to sharpen these Belgian chunks!
